You might be here for one of these
Every one of these starts the same way, with an assessment of how you actually move rather than a guess at what is wrong.
Scoliosis
A curve is not a life sentence of managing around it. I have one, and I train people who have one.

At Calgary Biomechanics, we take the guesswork out of training by focusing on how the body is designed to move. Using Functional Patterns methodology, we build a more functional, resilient body by training the fundamental movement patterns of standing, walking, running, and throwing.
These movement patterns apply to everyone, regardless of age or fitness level. Whether you’re an athlete looking to improve performance, someone dealing with pain, or simply wanting to move better, the principles of human movement remain the same. Our goal is to help you understand your body, improve the way you move, and build a foundation for long-term physical health.
This is what the training actually looks like
Instead of isolating individual muscles, we work with the movements your body uses every day. Standing, walking and running. Training these patterns helps you build strength and movement that carries over into real life.
What working together looks like
Why I train this way
I tried a lot of things before finding Functional Patterns. Yoga, Pilates, Schroth, massage, acupuncture, and more. Each one helped in some way, but the results never lasted. I felt like I was constantly managing the problem rather than changing what was causing it.
This was the first approach I had experienced that felt truly corrective while treating the body as a whole, rather than focusing on one area or simply managing where the pain showed up. Within my first week of working with a practitioner, I noticed a significant reduction in my pain. That experience led me to become certified in 2023.
I am a Functional Patterns Human Biomechanics Specialist Level 2, and I work with people from all walks of life, including many people with scoliosis.
My goal is to help you get to the root of your pain and feel more capable and strong in your body.
What people say
The questions I get asked most
Do you only work with people who have scoliosis?+
No. Scoliosis is a big part of my work because I have one myself and understand the challenges that can come with it. But the Functional Patterns method is for anyone who wants to get out of pain and improve how they move. I work with people dealing with pain, movement imbalances, recurring issues, old injuries, or simply looking to build a stronger, more capable body.
How is this different from what I have already tried?+
Most traditional treatments provide short-term relief but don’t always address why pain and imbalance exist in the first place. We’re different because we take an integrative approach by looking at how you actually move, how you stand, walk, breathe, and use your body as a whole.
Our goal is to address the underlying movement dysfunctions that may be contributing to your pain and imbalance, rather than simply training around them. We use corrective exercises and posture work to build strength and better movement patterns that support how your body is meant to function.
Do I need to be fit already?+
No. Most people come to me because something is not working, not because they are already training well. We start from wherever you actually are.
Do you train online?+
Yes. Sessions run in Calgary and area, or online over video, which is open to anyone anywhere.
