We start by looking at how your body actually stands and moves. Using gait and posture analysis, we look for movement patterns and imbalances that may be contributing to your pain or limiting how you move.
We look at things like:
- Asymmetries. Differences in how your left and right sides move.
- Muscle imbalances. Areas that may be underactive, weak, or over-compensating.
- Pelvic and hip movement. Shifts, drops, or collapses that show up while you move.
- Dysfunctional movement patterns. Compensations your body may have developed over time.
- Rotation. How well your trunk and pelvis coordinate and rotate together.
From there, we use what we find to guide your training. The goal isn’t just to identify what’s happening, it’s to understand why you’re moving that way and what we can do to change it.
Ongoing training that builds over time
Your initial assessment gives us a starting point. From there, ongoing sessions are where we work on changing the movement patterns we’ve identified and building a body that moves with more strength, stability, and efficiency.
- One to two weekly 60-minute sessions. Each session builds on the last, progressively developing your movement through functional training.
- Homework between sessions. You’ll have targeted exercises and movement work to practice at home. What you do between sessions is an important part of the process.
- Progress tracking through video. We periodically re-film your movement so we can compare your progress over time and see how your movement is changing.
Online sessions
Distance is not a barrier to this work. Online sessions run over video and cover the same ground as in-person ones: I watch you move, correct what I am seeing, and give you the work to do between sessions.
Online suits people who are outside Calgary, travel often, or want to keep training consistently when they cannot get to a session in person.
Common questions about sessions
Which one should I book first?+
The free 15-minute call, in almost every case. It costs nothing, and it saves you booking a paid session before either of us knows whether this fits.
Do I need to be fit or have training experience?+
No. Most people come to me because something is not working, not because they are already training well. We start from where you actually are.
Can you work with me if I have a scoliosis diagnosis?+
Yes, and it is a large part of who I work with. I have scoliosis myself.
Can I train with you if I have an old injury?+
Yes, in many cases. We’ll take your injury into account during your assessment and adjust your training based on how you move and what your body can handle.
How often should I train?+
It depends on your assessment and your week. We work that out together rather than me handing you a number before I have seen you move.
What should I wear and bring?+
Clothes you can move in, and that let me actually see how you are moving. Bring any scans or reports you have if you want me to see them, though they are not required.
Do you offer sessions outside Calgary?+
Yes, online, anywhere. Online sessions cover the same ground as in-person ones.
